St Mary's, Star of the Sea church in Largs is a very modern building built in 1962. It has a series of eight stained glass panels above the front door, which are symbolic of various aspects of the Catholic religion. There is no information available to me to say where, when or who made them but they have a bit of a Mediterranean feel to me.
These panels look fantastic in the window, but they are just too modern for me, beautifully done though :)
ReplyDeleteThe Catholic church seems to have built a fair number of big airy churches in the later half of the 20th century. I'm not sure they would suit the glass that we get used to elsewhere.
DeleteThey are by Felix McCullough and are not genuine stained glass but a technique he developed.
